Attendance and Absence

Regular attendance at school is important if your child is to make progress in their learning. At Parkwall we promote good attendance and work hard at achieving this. We work closely with an Education Welfare Officer who helps us to monitor the attendance at the school. Parents are contacted and visited if poor attendance and lateness persist.

There are times however, when your child may not be able to attend school due to illness. We ask that parents inform school as soon as possible. A telephone call on the first day of absence is required followed by a written letter on your child’s return to school.

If your child needs to leave school during the day for any reason, a note or telephone call is essential stating the reasons why and who will be collecting the child from school. Parents are advised not to take children on holiday during school term time unless this is unavoidable as it can have an adverse affect on their child’s education. When parents need to withdraw their children from school the appropriate Request for Holiday/Absence form should be completed. These are available from the School Office. Parkwall follows the South Gloucestershire Policy of not authorising any absence in Terms 1 and 5.

Punctuality

It is important that children arrive at school on time so they don’t miss out on some important learning. Even arriving 15 minutes late each day is equivalent to 1 ¼ hours a week which over a school year is the same as missing nearly three weeks of school!! Chuildren are welcome to come to school from 8.30am. The first whistle goes at 8:45am and children are expected to be in school learning at 8:55am. Children who arrive after 9am will need to go to the school office and will be recorded as late. We do write to parents of children who are consistently late and may refer them to the Education Welfare Service.
