​History and Geography

At the Park and Parkwall federation, we teach History and Geography together in terms 1, 3 and 5. In this way, children appreciate the interdependent nature of the subjects and their skills.

History

Children at the Park and Parkwall Federation engage in a high quality history curriculum that will inspire curiosity, fascination and exploration about Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We focus on the influence of significant events and people and the impact of those on our lives today. It is a subject that celebrates diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

Our teaching equips pupils to think critically, ask perceptive and valid questions of historical value and develop perspective judgements.

By the end of KS2 children will:

  • Know and understand historical chronology
  • Know about changes in the past, living memory and beyond
  • Know and understand significant aspects of the history of the wider world
  • Have acquired historical skills and wide range of subject specific vocabulary.
  • Understand the methods of historical enquiry
  • Be able to link eras historically and geographically

To ensure active participation and engagement we use a range of primary and secondary sources to inspire children. These include artefacts, school trips, hook day activities, inspirational speakers and visitors.

Geography

At The Park and Parkwall Federation, our geography curriculum will provide children with the knowledge, skills and understanding to inspire them to become global, sustainable citizens. By effectively entwining the United Nations Development goals 2030 through their topics, children are encouraged to be forward thinking and responsible members of the local school community through to the wider world. We strive to celebrate the global diversity of our pupils and personalise learning to reflect our school community, whilst challenging geographical stereotypes. We aspire for children to be curious and passionate geographers, who understand the current human and physical challenges to our planet and to appreciate their role in ensuring a sustainable future.

By the end of KS2 children will have experienced a depth of learning in:
